When is Christmas?

Here’s the thing:  Christmas is always the same date and has been around for a couple millennia now.    Pretty sure we all know when it is.   If you’re involved in production - don’t wait!    Reserve your extra wireless mic rentals in summer, or early fall, and get your additional cables purchased or made earlier in the year.

If you need more lighting fixtures or fog machines, or anything else, just plan ahead.  It’s coming. The best time to consider all the gear, tools, and supplies you may need is immediately following the previous Christmas production season while the details are still fresh in your mind.

This applies to booking people too: every November or so, I receive multiple late mixing requests from various Christmas productions (many involving travel) and I have to say no to a bunch.  I typically book Christmas dates 6 months out, or more.   And every year I hear lots of stories of churches placing purchase orders post-Thanksgiving or even early and mid December for gear they "must” have for Christmas events.  REALLY?  That feels like just begging for more stress. Manufacturers end up in heavy back order situations on certain products, despite their best forecasting efforts. And having worked for several major proaudio manufacturers, trust me – they begin forecasting a good year in advance, some times more.  But they’re not prophets. Please plan ahead.  Merry Christmas!  Rant off.
